Do you thnk Canada will ever be a country where people look to for solid women gymnasts? I was watching a program a few months back and they specifically highlighted how Canadian women gymnasts are lagging compared to many countries considering their abilities in so many other sports and I thought that was a comment those in gymnastics in Canada would be very disheartened with. There are many girls in this country who work very hard to try to gain national status yet they are never looked at as threats. Why do you think this is? How can this be improved?

maybe this kind of propaganda works, someones been lobbying pretty hard from GymNova- I hear they are now the National supplier for Nationals. Did CGC really sell-out to France, and not continue to support Canada(S/A Sports)

Only private (for-profit) clubs as bussinesses must charge HST(Ontario-13%), however public-sector entities( non-profit clubs) do not have to ! Seems un-just that one model should have a 13% economic advantage over the other model of delivering a service !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goverments are constantly talking about the need for the private sector to make investments in things, I can tell you its hard to help support Gymnastics programming in Ontario the way things are.

Each has competed in either 8 or 9 competitions over the year, with competitions on back to back weekends twice. They have not experienced either physical or mental burn out. One of the reasons is that to qualify for the "post season" the qualifying score is so low and they only have to attain this score at any one sanctioned USAG competition anywhere in the US. So there is no pressure other than the pressure associated with wanting to do well as opposed to having to do well to qualify. And, if a gymnast has a poor meet, she can still be a winner if her team does well. It seems that there is always a team competition in addition to the individual competition. At regular meets, its gym vs gym at each session. At the regional competition, its state vs state. And, at eastern nationals or nationals it region vs region. This friendly competition adds a little extra excitement for the gymnasts. In conclusion, GO has to do something that makes gymnastics more exciting for the gymnasts or they will leave the sport.

Thank you guest714 for your input. This is something GO should have implemented years ago. Unfortunately we have lost and continue to lose talented athletes due to the present system. Ontario & the rest of Canada need to get onboard with the rest of the gymnastics world if we are to be viable contenders on the international stage, and to make it to the international stage, it all starts at the provincial level. Abolishing the Ontario Cup is a start (although it should have never been implemented in the first place). GO still has a lot more work ahead of them if they want to keep girls in this very demanding sport.
Sadly, this news is too late for some, as I am aware of a few girls who will not be returning next season as they were as you put it "burned out", and they were ranked in the top prior to Ontario Cup. I agree, the move to eliminate the Ontario Cup was an excellent decision, just wish it had been done sooner rather than later.

This is good news! I think GO is moving in the right direction. The system in place here in Ontario is outdated with the rest of the country and the U.S. Not sure who was responsible for implementing the Ontario Cup in the first place, but seriously what a bad move that was.
