Anyone reports from the weekend's qualifier? the flights groups seemed really large - was it able to run on schedule with the new warmup D?

The results are being updated but some of the categories with combined ages are causing some problems, as to where they belong. If you see an athlete in the wrong age please let me know and it will be corrected.

I totally agree with you. I was not impressed with the Ottawa meet either. From then trying to bump for awards to charging too much for admission prices there were a lot of things wrong with this meet!!

Just like Tour selection!

I was impressed at St. Catharines with how they did awards - a couple of the rotation groups finished quite a while before the other two rotation groups, and almost as soon as the competition ended they started presenting awards, saying that they would start with the categories that they had finished calculating (which were the groups that finiished first I believe). I was so glad they didn't make us wait before all categories were completed before beginning presentations - and by the time they finished the first categories, the awards for the other categories were also ready - so there was no delay. (But even though in our flight, no one had to give any awards back, there were adjustments made in the flight before after awards were done, so I guess it wasn't perfect.)

With the problems they had figuring out the awards, I am not surprised. Level 5 ages 9 and 10 both had to give their awards back and they started over. Definitely wasn't impressed with this qualifier...

Until the girls are competing against each other in front of the same panel of judges there is bound to be some inconsistency. I don't think it is done intentionally, but anything judged by humans will inevitably have some bias in them. One judge may like a particular skill that is competed and not like one competed by another athlete, maybe executed the same, but they are partial to the other move. It is bound to happen. Not an ideal situation, but just reality I think.

PS. I hope in the long run it all comes out in the wash and this may be why there are three qualifiers.

What I find stranger is that some gyms always get high marks at their meets and others the marks are much lower and yet, if these same girls competed all at once at the same comp you have to wonder if there is that much difference.

You have to wonder how fair the existing system is when you look at results from different meets and the judging (scores) are so different from one meet to the next. On the same weekend a winning floor score would have gotten you last place in the same level at another qualifier. The judges really need to be more consistent with their deductions because it is hard to believe that the calibre of athlete was that different from one meet to the next?!?
