The American Cup is a one-day all around event for men and women.
Brittany Rogers of Coquitlam, B.C., gained some valuable international experience on Saturday as she placed ninth all around in women’s competition Saturday at the American Cup gymnastics competition.
Jordan Wieber led the U.S., to a 1-2 finish posting the best scores on vault, uneven bars and beam for 60.200 points. Bridget Sloan, who tied her compatriot for the best score on uneven bars and was also tops on floor, followed at 59.600. Kim Bui of Germany was third at 56.000.
Rogers showed why she is considered one of Canada’s brightest young stars in the sport and a hopeful for the 2012 Olympic team. She had the sixth best score on floor and was also seventh on uneven bars and eighth on vault and beam. She totalled 52.600 points.
The 15-year-old Omega Gymnastics Club member enjoyed a strong 2008 season capped by her first senior all around title at the Elite Canada competition this past December in Gatineau, Que. She was also member of Canada’s third place team at the 2007 Pan Am Games.
