MARSEILLES, France — Canada took silver and bronze in team competition and Dominique Pegg of Bluewater Gymnastics in Sarnia, Ont., added a bronze in the all around standings on Friday at the Massilia Open women’s gymnastics competition.
A Chinese club from Shanghai won the team gold with 115.90 points followed by Canada 1 with 109.850 and Canada 2 at 108.00.
Canada 1 team members were Pegg, Rochelle Hurt of Gymnastics Mississauga, Anysia Unick of Calgary’s Stampede City Club.
Canada 2 team members were Jessica Dowling and Madeline Gardiner both of the Cambridge (Ont.) Kips, and Caitlyn Keats of Gymnastics Mississauga.
Canada 3 with Briannah Tsang and Alyssa Saramatunga, both of Omega Gymnastics in Coquitlam, B.C., and Sabrina Gill of the Oakville (Ont.) Gymnastics Club were seventh and Canada 4 with Anna Gamelo of Gymnastics Mississauga and Mikaela Gerber of the Oakville Gymnastics Club were 10th out of 23 teams.
In the individual all around standings, Keng Junxiao of China was first at 57.700 her compatriot Yu Jiaozhang second at 57.100 and Pegg third at 55.600.
Gardiner was fifth, Dowling eighth and Unick ninth.
”We brought a young team so they could gain some important international experience,” said Lise Gosselin-Simard women’s program director for Gymnastics Canada. ”This is a group that’s been identified as potential candidates for the 2012 Olympic team and this is their first meet towards that goal.”

Dominique Pegg of Bluewater Gymnastics in Sarnia, Ont., competed in three of the four event finals.
Pegg, 14, posted her best result on vault placing fifth with a 13.737 score. She was also ninth on uneven bars and on floor. Madeline Gardiner of the Cambridge (Ont.) Kips was 11th on floor, Caitlyn Keats of Gymnastics Mississauga 11th on beam and Anysia Unick of Calgary’s Stampede City Club 12th on vault.
The top-12 from Friday’s qualifying advanced to event finals.
